About This Trip
Journey into Jordan's eastern desert to discover a remarkable trail of early Islamic palaces and castles. Begin at Qasr al-Hallabat, a Roman fortress converted into an Umayyad palace with beautiful mosaics and frescoes. Continue to the UNESCO-listed Qasr Amra, famous for its extraordinarily well-preserved 8th-century frescoes depicting hunting scenes and bathing women. Then visit the imposing Qasr Kharaneh, a mysterious caravanserai-like castle rising from the flat desert plain. End at Qasr Azraq, the black basalt fortress where Lawrence of Arabia famously made his headquarters during the Arab Revolt.
